I have tried to download UNIT 2, but nothing happens. Is there a solution to that?Regards,Steen
Got it now. My solution was to put it on wishlist and then download. Looks good!Regards,Steen
Thanks Steen, for the compliment and the update. That site has been a little sketchy the past day or so, so I'm glad it ultimately worked out for you. If you get a chance, let me know how the lessons go. Best,Mike
How many weeks did it take you to teach the complete unit? Thanks!Kelli Knowleskelli.email@example.com
I played the first episode for them after the third or fourth episode was published, and they caught up to me when we listened to the finale on the day of the final (it was weird how that coincided). So I guess we spent about nine weeks on it. But, couple of caveats (a word I use now much more frequently since I put it on the vocab list): 1. I was teaching other things for those nine weeks, as well (often listening to Serial was a bit of a reward -- "I'll press play as soon as everybody has completed today's assignment"). 2. I would have taken longer, but as mentioned, the finale and final coincided. When I do it next year, I'll be spending a week or two on the fun project-based-learning final assessments. In fact, I'm going to play the first episode again later this week and have them write a Serial-like podcast based on The Crucible, which they just finished.Short answer? If you're comfortable assigning some of the episodes as homework (I am hesitant), and picking just the activities that you like, you could be done in three weeks. If you're mixing in other elements of your class, the longest it should take is 12 weeks.Shoot me an email if you have any more specific questions (I love to help), and send me updates if you can...
Hi--I haven't had any luck finding a "clean" version of Serial to play in my conservative-based classroom-- any suggestions?Thank you for sharing your Serial lessons.
The first episode can be found on thisamericanlife.org -- just search for Serial (It's called "The Alibi"). To my knowledge, that's the only one that's been censored. In the plans, I include the exact moment of naughty words for the remaining episodes, and you can edit your own transcripts that you can find online (there are links to them on the plans).Incidentally, I think I deduced why the first episode is the only censored one -- it probably went on the radio, which the FCC polices. The remaining ones were on the podcast, which doesn't follow the same rules.
